Animate an avatar

Preparing avatar for animation

In this part we are going to animate an new avatar. The animation will be realized thanks the Mixamo website (https://www.mixamo.com/). This site allows you to upload an avatar and use one of their animation to animate yours.

Before uploading your avatar you need to transform it to be usable by the plateform.

We need to create a simpler FBX model from our avatar. MPFB will do this for you thanks a simple button in the animation slot :

Clicking the button will create a new avatar much simple,

and you'll be proposed to save it in a FBX file.

Be sure that, in the saving window, the checkbox “Limit to Selected objects” is checked.

After this, you can upload your reduced avatar on the website and test some animation.

After you selected one, download it with the option “without skin”

Adding animation to your avatar

Once the FBX animation file downloaded, import it in Blender :

In the next step, we are going to apply the animation to our avatar. For this, select the animation (bones skeleton) and your avatar, and click the button “snap to mixamo” in the animation slot :

Adapt the Blender movie length to your animation length and play the animation :
